KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese leader Jia Qinglin put forward several suggestions on advancing China-Malaysia relationship to new depth and broadness as he met with Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi here Wednesday afternoon.
Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) said bilateral relations are facing a good opportunity for further growth. He said China is ready to be a trust-worthy friend and a cooperative partner.
Jia suggested that China and Malaysia strengthen communications among all societies of the two countries so as to deepen political mutual trust.
He said the CPPCC consists of outstanding members from various ethnic groups, political parties and sections of China and plays an important role in China's political life and foreign relations. The CPPCC is ready to become a platform for communications with all communities of Malaysia so as to enhance friendship and promote cooperation.
Jia said the two countries should deepen trade and economic cooperation by maintaining the momentum of rapid expansion of trade and economic cooperation, pushing forward cooperation in key areas such as infrastructure development and tourism.
He said the two countries should strive to achieve the goal of boosting two-way trade volume to above 50 billion U.S. dollars per year ahead of the scheduled year of 2010.
Jia said China will encourage Chinese companies to invest in Malaysia. He also welcomes Malaysian companies to take part in the development of China's west and in the rejuvenation of traditional industrial zones in northeast China.
Jia said the two countries should actively carry out cooperation in energy development so as to enrich the content of bilateral links. He said the two countries should turn South China Sea into a link of energy cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit.
China and Malaysia should strengthen coordination and cooperation in regional and international affairs, said Jia. Noting that a China-ASEAN summit will be held to mark the 15th anniversary of their links in Nanning in southwest China Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in October, Jia said China is ready to take this opportunity to further advance relations with Malaysia and other ASEAN countries.
For his part, Badawi agreed with Jia's suggestions on advancing bilateral links. He said as friendly neighbors, Malaysia and China have maintained constant exchanges at all levels and sound bilateral relations.
Badawi said Malaysia has always attached priority to developing relations with China. He said Malaysia is ready to strengthen trade and cooperation with China in such fields as economy, energy, investment and infrastructure development.
He said Malaysia is willing to diversify the forms, widen the channels and enrich the content of cooperation with China so as to achieve more results in mutually beneficial cooperation.
Badawi said Malaysia supports friendship organization and commercial institutes of both countries to play a bigger role in advancing bilateral ties and economic cooperation.
He said Malaysia is ready to continue consultations with China on issues concerning joint development of South China Sea.
Badawi reiterated that the Malaysian government will, as always, stick to the one-China policy.
Jia said bilateral relations are developing smoothly. He expressed appreciation for Badawi and the Malaysian government for attaching importance to and actively expanding relations with China and adhering to the one-China policy. Enditem
