Hu Jintao Meets with Prime Minister of Malaysia
On the afternoon of May 29, 2004, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi of Malaysia at the Great Hall of the People.
Hu Jintao said that the visit by Prime Minister Badawi and his delegation to China on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Malaysia is of great significance to promoting development of relations between the two countries. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, relations between the two countries have enjoyed steady and considerable development. Particularly in recent years, mutual political trust has been enhanced, economic and trade cooperation is in full swing, cooperation in various areas has been expanding and the two sides have conducted productive cooperation in international and regional affairs, especially in promoting cooperation in East Asia. China appreciates the adherence to the one-China policy by Malaysia and its active efforts to boost the development of the strategic partnership between China and ASEAN countries. Facts have shown that China and Malaysia are reliable friends and good partners of mutually beneficial cooperation. Relations between the two countries have entered a new stage, which is featured by comprehensive and deepened development.
Hu added that Malaysia is both a friendly close neighbor of China and an important member of ASEAN. China would like to make joint efforts with Malaysia to continue to enhance cooperation between the two countries within bilateral and multilateral frameworks and push the good-neighborly and friendly relations of cooperation between the two countries so as to make one after another new achievement and benefit the two countries and peoples.
Badawi said that bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and China has been expanding and deepening over the past 3 decades since the establishment of diplomatic ties. Relations between the two countries are strong and come in many areas and levels, involving many facets of social life of the two countries and bringing a lot of tangible benefits to the two countries, with which Malaysia is satisfied. He added that China has developed into a complete market economy, which is rendering huge potentials for economic cooperation between the two countries. Malaysia would like to work together with China to explore new areas for cooperation and deepen bilateral cooperation.
Badawi added that China is a country that exerts great influence on the world, that China has always been committed to world peace and development and peaceful resolution of international and regional issues, and that China has made important contributions to stability and prosperity of this region. Malaysia would like to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China in international and regional affairs.
