Premier Wen Jiabao Meets Malaysian, Turkish, and Russian Deputy Prime Ministers
On September 15, Premier Wen Jiabao met with visiting Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Mehmet Ali Sahin and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Galina Karelova.
During his meeting with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Wen pointed out that China attaches great importance to Sino-Malaysian relations and is ready to make joint efforts with Malaysia to consolidate and develop bilateral friendly cooperation. He stressed the current strong development momentum of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, saying it is completely possible for the two sides to attain an annual trade volume exceeding 20 billion US dollars within two years. He hoped that the two sides will promote two-way investment and cooperation with an emphasis on five fields, namely, agriculture, high-tech, infrastructure, development of resources, and tourism.
Badawi said that bilateral relations have had sound development and there are broad prospects for bilateral economic and trade cooperation. He said that the Malaysian government is willing to further deepen and expand bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit, and Malaysia will work with China to realize their trade target of 20 billion US dollars at an early date. He also emphasized that China's development presents an opportunity and is beneficial to ASEAN.
During his meeting with Mehmet Ali Sahin, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Wen said that the Chinese government attaches importance to international cooperation in personnel training and development, pointing to the remarkable results of bilateral cooperation and exchanges in this field in the past years. He said he hoped that both sides will, through human resources development, enhance mutual understanding and trust, thus pushing forward the overall development of bilateral relations.
Sahin said that the Turkish government places much importance on its relations with China, and the two countries share many common points and have cooperated smoothly in administration and human resources development. Sahin added that Turkey also hopes to expand bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit and personnel exchanges in such fields as economy, trade, culture, sports so as to raise bilateral relations to a new high.
Wen extended welcome to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Galina Karelova, who is here to attend the Fourth Session of the China-Russia Cooperation Committee on Education, Culture, Health and Sports. Wen said that China and Russia are big countries boasting long histories and rich cultural resources, and bilateral cooperation has created sound conditions for their strategic and cooperative partnership and provided guarantee for the smooth development of the relationship. He hoped the committee would cater to the needs of time continuously and carry on substantial cooperation in the related field.
Karelova remarked on the positive development and remarkable results of bilateral cooperation in the cultural field in recent years. She said the Russian government attaches great importance to bilateral cultural cooperation, holding that the cooperation has not only promoted people-to-people friendship, but also improved the bilateral strategic and cooperative partnership.
